A message from our Musical Director:

When those who were to found the Waterford Male Voice Choir first approached me, I immediately thought of the difficulty of getting men involved in choirs, something that seemed to be the case all over the world. But as we went on our journey together over the past few years I learned that this was in fact not the case. We all know that Wales has a proud tradition of Male Voice Choirs; however, countries all over Europe and beyond have similar if not more of a tradition and love of singing than even Wales.

None of our choir members are trained singers and most (still) don't know a crotchet from quaver, but none of that matters because that's why you join - to learn.  So in summary the music is great, the people friendly and the craic mighty - what's stopping you?

We also like to socialize over a few beers and do some more singing. We have formal and informal singing sessions from time to time. Social Nights in various pubs locally Weekends away (we've visited Lismore, Wexford, Dunmore East, Clonmel, Dungarvan, Kilkenny in the past few years) Trips abroad. We have visited Wales and sang in concerts with leading Welsh Choirs and soloists. Also we participated in the Celtic Choral Festival in Wales and last year we travelled to Weybridge in Surrey, England to participate in an Autumn concert with Weybridge Male Voice Choir.

So you can sing but cannot read music?

Not a problem!

Line CDs and Internet Line Tracks for downloading are made available covering the entire repertoire for each part. This enables the choir member to listen to a vocal rendition of the Repertoire in the member’s particular voice (i.e. Tenor1 Tenor2, Baritone or Bass). As a result the new member can learn his part speedily and will also help with learning to read music when used in conjunction with the sheet music.
